Those who have been reading for a long time will know that I’ve always taken issue with Microsoft’s marketing team, and them seemingly not “getting” the fact that; it’s about showing your users how to use the actual product you’re selling to them, rather than simply hiring some dancers to ‘convey’ the overall experience you are offering.
Thankfully, Microsoft’s new ad for Windows 8.1 hits the spot – perfectly.
While we would agree that it still lacks that “emotional” aspect, designed to draw users in solely based on their feelings whilst watching the ad, we (finally) have a television spot made by the company for its Windows platform – that doesn’t purposely ‘put down’ the competition for its own gain, or use a ‘Glee’-style entourage to convey the product’s ease of use.
Instead, Microsoft is focusing on telling its users one thing: The “Start” button, previously removed from the initial version of Windows 8 — is now back and ready to be used again.
When it comes down to it: It seems you just can’t take the “Start” out of Microsoft. In addition, the company is also taking advantage of a new strap line, which reads: “One experience for everything in your life.” – Cute.
