Next-Generation iPhone To Be Branded “5C” – [RUMOR, PHOTO]

There is a photo making the rounds this evening which appears to show a bin full of plastic retail casings, for what the guys over at the WeiPhone Forums suggest may be destined for Apple’s next-generation iPhone.

Arriving starkly different from the reinforced cardboard box packaging we’ve seen Apple use for the iPhone‘s retail branding in the past, the photo shows how the company may soon introduce a new model of its popular smartphone with the moniker “iPhone 5C,” complete with a moulded plastic retail casing similar to what you would expect to receive today’s iPod nano, or iPod touch in.

Following the surfacing of the new photo, many are now beginning to speculate what the addition of the letter ‘C’ to Apple’s smartphone branding could mean.

Consumer? … Possibly, although that would be a little too obvious, if the branding is to be attached to the company’s long-rumored ‘low-cost’ iPhone. That said, we shouldn’t forget that the ‘S’ in iPhone 4S has been confirmed by the company to stand for the word “Speed.” Perhaps it’s not worth overthinking?

It’s certainly a convincing photo.
