That’s according to a new report by The Information in which the publication cites its own sources.
The move will reportedly mark part of a push by Google to bring “more uniformity to the fragmented universe of Android phones.” These discussions, the report notes, (which occurred sometime this fall), saw Google representatives “put forward designs of chips it was interested in co-developing,” including, the paper says, “a phone’s main processor.”

“The designs enable new features Google hopes to implement within Android software in the next few years, according to people briefed on the discussions,” reports The Information’s Amir Efrati.
Less fragmentation sounds like a good thing to us.
