Wilhem and Joffrey, two software engineers from Paris – otherwise known as the “PaperBoys,” got in touch tonight to explain their vision for the future of news consumption, and how they – with the help of their new platform: PaperPrime – hope to change an idea which, the duo says, has “not evolved” readily with the times.
“We believe these apps have not evolved to the extent of their ability. They’re still embracing traditional taxonomic concepts such as ‘topics’ to organise and ease the access of information.
They’re still relying on syndicated sources to deliver it to end users. And contrary to social networks, they don’t provide a sufficient level of context to inform us while giving us a sense of when and where the news are born, something that actively participates in the understanding and grasping of the experiences around us.”

But, as the pair highlight, the above is also not to say that social networking apps are the “right solution” to consuming the news we crave on a daily basis, either.
“You’re probably aware that platforms like Twitter fail in providing a convenient way to consume the overwhelming amount of news they allow us to create,” the engineers highlight, noting that “the noise” self-created by these services pretty much screws everything.
The solution? – PaperPrime.
“Our mission with PaperPrime is to filter out the noise surrounding the news available on social networks while introducing a new taxonomic approach to news consumption. When we started observing what people actually talk about online, we realised that it was often contextually related with events. If events make the news, how about creating a news reading user experience starting from events?”
So, thats what they did.
PaperPrime lets you follow the news as it breaks across the world’s most-used social networks both before, during and after the events happen. “We developed a big data technology that aggregates social news from all major social networking platforms and displays them as easy to consume timelines that update in real-time,” the duo explained, as they continued to detail the benefits of PaperPrime over alternative offerings already available on the App Store.

“We’ve also made it so that every timeline, news [item] or [person] can be bookmarked,” which the developers say should make using PaperPrime as a “personal curator,” all the more fun and enjoyable.
“Of course, we’re still a long way before being able to properly stitch the scattered parts of the most amazing stories the world has to offer. But we’re certainly determined to make Frankenstein a real, fully-fledged human as we keep iterating toward this vision.”
Designed especially for iPhone, and just updated with a bunch of “help overlays” to get you started, PaperPrime packs a highly visual-driven interface into a brand new news-reading experience – and is completely FREE to download.
